FuelFWD, the Rotterdam-based startup focusing on digital solutions for the renewable fuels sector, has successfully completed a seed investment round. The round was led by Value Factory Ventures, with renewed support from Docklab Ventures and the Port of Rotterdam, who are investing in FuelFWD for the second time. The raised capital will be used to accelerate the company’s growth and further develop its innovative solution.
FuelFWD’s mission is to streamline the renewable fuels market by eliminating the burden of compliance and providing traceability. FuelFWD offers an advanced software solution for companies in the renewable fuels sector, where compliance administration is often time-consuming and costly. The software provides an alternative to the often manual, Excel-based workflows for compliance administration and reporting. Using AI, manual error-prone processes are digitized, and potential compliance issues are automatically flagged. This enables biofuel and e-fuel producers and traders to work far more efficiently, reduce costs, and drastically mitigate risks of non-compliance.
What makes the solution unique is that FuelFWD can function not only as Software as a Service (SaaS) but also as Platform as a Service (PaaS) when multiple parties within the supply chain use the software. FuelFWD’s digital fuel passport enhances the ‘chain of custody’ of renewable fuels, allowing fuels to be accurately traced from source to consumer and securing the premium value of these sustainable alternatives. Furthermore, the software is independent of certifications or specific sustainable fuels and provides control, efficiency, and auditability from day one.
Strong Team and Strategic Location
FuelFWD was founded by Menno van der Zalm, and Vincent Tribou as a spin-out from technology lab and venture studio Docklab. Earlier this summer, Federico Pereiro joined the management team, alongside a group of talented software developers. The company is based in Rotterdam, at the heart of one of the world’s largest clusters for renewable fuels, spanning the port areas of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Antwerp.
Investment Aligns with Strategic Focus
Arnoud Jullens, CEO of Docklab Ventures, explains why they are reinvesting in FuelFWD: “The energy transition requires not only the production, storage, and distribution of renewable fuels but also digital transformation within companies and supply chains. FuelFWD is such a solution – the ‘lubricant’ that accelerates the growth of sustainable fuel use.”
Menno van der Zalm, Managing Director of FuelFWD, looks forward to the next growth phase: “Renewable fuels are the future. Our mission is to help companies operate more efficiently and compliantly in a complex and rapidly changing market. With the support of Docklab Ventures and Value Factory Ventures, we can further develop our solution and maximize its potential. We are proud of the collaboration and look to the future with confidence.”
